The curling spirit of Ljubljana Open 2026

The Ljubljana Open 2026 bonspiel has wrapped up after an exciting weekend of curling action, with 20 teams from across Europe and North America competing in a Schenkel system format on Slovenian ice.

After 4 rounds, the top 12 teams advanced to the final round, setting the stage for an unforgettable conclusion. The tournament culminated in a closed final between Stone Hunters (Slovakia) and SissiZug (Switzerland), where every end mattered. In a heart-stopping championship match, Slovakia’s Stone Hunters claimed gold with a narrow 5-4 victory, proving their dominance throughout the competition.

The home crowd erupted with pride as Slovenia’s CKJ Mladi secured the bronze medal, fighting their way to third place in the Schenkel system rankings and giving the host nation a spot on the podium.

We are especially grateful that Mr. Douglas Young, a long-time supporter and donor of Slovenian curling, once again joined us for this event. Skipping team Digi Dagi, Mr. Young competed alongside young Slovenian national team players from various age categories, and together they finished in an excellent 6th place – a testament to the spirit of international collaboration and mentorship that makes our sport so special.

The international field brought together curling enthusiasts from Slovakia, Switzerland, Slovenia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Italy, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the United States, and Canada, creating a truly diverse and competitive atmosphere.

We’re thrilled to share video highlights from the bonspiel. Please share these clips with your curling community and help spread the word about this fantastic event!

A huge thank you to all teams, volunteers, and supporters who made the Ljubljana Open 2026 a success. Your passion for the sport and dedication to the curling community continues to make this event special.
